"One Big Story"

Creation

From the burning sun and distant galaxies all the way down to hydrogen
atoms and skin cells—it all comes from the power of the one and only
God.

As part of his creation God made Adam and Eve, the first members of
humanity. God took special care to make them in his image and meet their
needs. God looked at all he had made and said it was “very good.”

Brokenness

Sadly, it didn’t stay that way. Despite all God had done for them, Adam
and Eve refused to believe what God told them. They rejected his wisdom
and rule, and rebelled against him.

In our day, we might disobey some people—like teachers or parents—and
get away with it. But we can’t reject the all-knowing God and expect to
somehow sneak it past him. Rebellion against God has serious
consequences.

God told Adam and Eve that they, and all their children (including us),
would be under a curse of disobedience. The curse of our
disobedience—what the Bible calls sin—is death. Each and every human
being is born under that curse of sin. It is a curse that we quickly
show to be true through our own sinful thoughts and actions.

If this were the whole story, we’d be hopelessly lost and forever under
that curse.

Redemption

Thankfully, God didn’t stop there. He could have turned his back on the
human race and left us to suffer the fate we  deserve. Instead, he did
something absolutely amazing.

Knowing that we couldn’t undo the curse, God took matters into his own
hands and sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to take the curse for us and to
undo its damage.

This wasn’t easy though. The only way for Jesus to break the curse of
death was by dying in our place. Which he did. God shows his love for us
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

What this means is that God has made a way for people to be saved from
the curse of death, not because of works done by us, but according to
his own mercy. When Christ came, he came to put away sin by the
sacrifice of himself.

Restoration

We know that Christ’s death in our place worked because God brought him
back to life. Since Jesus never rebelled against God he wasn’t under the
curse like we are. After paying for our curse through his death Jesus
came back to life. And Jesus, being raised from the dead, will never die
again. And he will one day return and make all things new.

To be in God’s kingdom, you can’t stay under the curse of sin. You must
trust in Jesus as the only way to break that curse and forgive your
sinful rebellion.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your
heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. When you
trust Jesus as the only way to escape the curse, then the curse is
broken in your life and you are freed to follow God and restored to a
right relationship. In Christ, you can be dead to sin and alive in him!
